We wish to make a clarification and request your continued support.
We were surprised yesterday morning to hear a contribution from a representative of the Tartan Army Children’s Charity on a Radio Clyde news bulletin.
The representative said that the Tartan Army Children’s Charity would be making donations to children’s organisations in most countries that Scotland will visit in the forthcoming Euro 2012 campaign. This follows an email that the Steering Group received from the Tartan Army Children’s Charity on 02 February in which they said “TACC’s Trustees have agreed that in the forthcoming Euro 2012 qualifying campaign TACC will aim to make a donation at most away matches.”
Despite the claim of “agreement”, and despite the radio broadcast yesterday morning, the Sunshine Appeal Steering Group were under the impression that this change in direction by the Tartan Army Children’s Charity had still to be ratified at a meeting of its Trustees on Sunday afternoon.
Until now, agreed guidelines existed between the two charities whereby the Sunshine Appeal would donate at every away match and the Children’s Charity would make one substantial donation (supported by the Sunshine Appeal) in one country per campaign and would support children’s charities in Scotland.
This announcement by the Tartan Army Children’s Charity represents a significant departure from the agreed areas of influence and is one that the Sunshine Appeal has politely declined to acquiesce.
The Steering Group of the Sunshine Appeal believe that the current arrangement has worked well and to the benefit of all stakeholders.
With links originating in friendships established in Bosnia in 1999 originally for the appeal to help Kemal Karic in 2002, and through the hard work and donations of Scotland fans, the Sunshine Appeal has donated to children’s charities in every country that Scotland has played in since 2003.
The Sunshine Appeal has not and will not seek publicity for publicity’s sake and will continue, with the help and donations from the ordinary Scotland fan, to quietly and with discretion and humility, bring a ray of sunshine into the lives of children in the countries that we visit as a gesture of friendship from caring Scottish football fans.
We ask that you consider continuing to support the Sunshine Appeal as the Steering Group continues to take the good and giving nature of Scottish football fans to needy children.
Thank you for reading this.
